Zenikan crafts a perfectly funky new single, "Bananabull Girl"
With his first release since his 2018 album Zumo, Zenikan is back with a perfectly groovy new single titled “Bananabull Girl”. Read on to learn all about this emerging artist, as well as our full thoughts on the track.
Brazilian born, but now stationed in Norway as of the last 12 years, Zenikan has just let loose this funky single titled “Bananabull Girl” that we’ve quickly fallen in love with. Filled with cultural influences from all around the world, this was one of those listens that immediately feels familiar. Considering it’s been 3 years since his last output, this was long awaited and the artist has more than delivered.
On the origins of the track, “Bananabull Girl” is about a love story that never happened, and the wishful thinking and hopeless romanticism of the song is brought out by the groovy bass and soulful vocals. Like so many who’ve endured rough times over the past year and a half, Zenikan struggled to find inspiration, but in the end managed to craft this upbeat and sexy sounding tune that all are guaranteed to enjoy. If this happens to be your introduction to the artist, this is a great place to dip your toes in.
At a little over four total minutes in run time, nearly immediately Zenikan transports the listener into his own little oasis of music. Featuring groovy basslines, his lofi yet smooth vocals, and the necessary use of bongos to drive the beat, we know for the absolute fact we’ll be playing this song non-stop throughout our summer. It’s one of those musical listening experiences that doesn’t get old and serves a multitude of purposes. You could easily dance along to a focused listen or throw it onto a party playlist for all to enjoy, we think we’ll do both.
As fantastic as “Bananabull Girl” was, it would be a total shame if you didn’t check out his past record Zumo to really get an ear for his evolution of sound over the past 3 years.
