Released in 2021, but still as magnificent of a listen today, we’re absolutely loving Wildcat Hawkins’ record, Goliath Laughed. Read on for a glowing review of the album, as well as a refresher on the artist.

Released on Christmas of 2021, Wildcat Hawkins’ fourth LP is titled Goliath Laughed and it’s a perfectly perplexing output of indie electronica. Accompanied by a full length visual to fully bring life to this music that’s begging for it, the entire package of both the record and video are out of this world. We’ve reviewed Wildcat in the past, however we confidently feel that this is our favorite work of his yet.

As a whole, so much of what we’ve enjoyed about his music over the past year for example is that he’s never held himself to a specific genre or style. It goes on to prove his capabilities as both a producer and composer in terms of sound, style, and the ease of blending genres. Typically, electronic music isn’t our favorite music to listen to, however he’s managed to create this extremely approachable piece of art that’s accessible to everyone who enters. At 11 songs, spanning right around 43 minutes, it’s easily one of the most immersive and cohesive albums we’ve heard in a while.

Even better is that he’s the type of musician who doesn’t stop making music. All set for release on May 26th, he’s got another record coming called Silent Sentinels that is supposedly a collection of improvised piano solos. We urge everyone out there to explore his discography and try to imagine what that’s going to sound like. Going from pure electronic to improv piano is quite the jump, but if anyone can nail it, it’s Wildcat Hawkins.

Lastly, we’ll recommend everyone out there to at least give the tracks “Naked Emperor”, “Tactile Experience”, and the closer “Brazen Serpent” a listen. From start to finish it’s quite the experience, but those were the real standouts that had our jaws on the floor. Do yourselves all a huge favor though and check out Goliath Laughed in full!
