Taking the time out of his busy schedule, we got the wonderful opportunity to speak with Wes Hambright all about his newest album, Propaganda. Please watch our full interview below.

For those potentially out of the loop, Wes Hambright is an incredibly talented composer and songwriter who’s been prolific in his releases dating back almost 15 years. With a whopping 15 feature films, 20 short films, 12 ballets, and much more that he’s composed, his newest project falls under his moniker Orange Dog. The record is titled Propaganda and it’s an experimental yet rewarding piece. We got the chance to talk to Wes all about it and receive a more than necessary background on its creation.

As an artist like himself who’s so versatile in what he’s creating, it’s no surprise that Wes spends his day inspiring teenagers everyday as a teacher. His work is truly expansive, but lately his focus has been on Propaganda, a record that immediately struck as awe-inspiring on our first listen through. After speaking extensively with Wes, ultimately he decided on labeling his work as an Art Pop concept record, which seriously fits the bill so nicely. The immense amount of styles and genres presented are one thing, always keeping the listener guessing as to what might come next, but lyrically it also goes quite deep in the themes covered. According to Wes, it’s about “how to process our world when we encounter things like corruption, cancel culture, and conspiracies”.

Additionally, it so effortlessly comes off as providing the quintessential “album experience”, an unfortunate lost art these days. The immersive qualities give off right towards the opening tracks and continually challenge you as a listener to connect the dots and make sense of this crazy world we’re all living in. Obviously speaking with Wes gave us a massive amount of context into this album, but it was also a treat to get a closer look at how he creates and what’s to be expected in 2023. Big things are on the way, but you should first familiarize yourself with a listen of Propaganda.
