Two Door Cinema Club Fans Rejoice: Lost Songs Have Been Found
EP Review by Sarah Woods
With only a hint of a new music release last night on social media, fans were surprised this morning when Two Door Cinema Club released a rarities collection EP, Lost Songs (Found), filled with B-sides of their 2010 fan-favorite debut Tourist History, including an original demo version of “Something Good For You” and the first studio version of “Hands Off My Cash Monty,” with little information or advertising.
For long time fans of the band, this is a delightful addition to the regular trove of New Music Friday goodies. The EP brings you back to that unique indie pop-rock Two Door Cinema Club became famous for, and even the lo-fi nature of the EP is charming in and of itself when most albums released now are so polished and overproduced you wonder if the sound was produced by a computer rather than a human. Listening to the album, you can picture yourself at their early shows for the release of Tourist History and even before back in 2008 for songs such as “Too Much Coffee”, as most of the songs on the EP have only been heard before at their early live shows. With YouTube videos of live performances being the only source so far except for “19” and “Impatience Is a Virtue”, both largely undocumented, this EP is a real treat for Two Door Cinema Club fans and a great way for new fans to get into the band with new music from the very beginning.
With more time than ever to listen to old and new music alike, be sure to check out the new EP on streaming services such as Spotify, and also check out their past albums on LP and CD on the Two Door Cinema Club online music store. You can also help support the group by grabbing some great merch at their online merch store.
