A sincerely mesmerizing listen from beginning to end, the artist known as Tuulikki Bartosik has created something sensational on their latest record, Playscapes. Keep reading for a closer look into the record, in addition to a background on this artist.

Truly groundbreaking in terms of compositions, soundscapes, and cutting edge instrumentation, we’re overjoyed with the newest album coming from Tuulikki Bartosik called Playscapes. Focusing intently on an outrageous production that blurs the line between electronic and orchestral elements, this is legitimately one of the more unique pieces of art we’ve heard in quite some time. Without a doubt, we’re urging everyone out there to give this a listen as soon as possible.

On the background of it all, Tuulikki has said that Playscapes is my “inner journey from Estonia to Sweden, Finland, England and Japan”. The artist has gone above and beyond by infusing a wide variety of instrumentation that includes free-bass accordion, kantele, voice and electronics. Considering she’s one of the very few female accordionists in the world that’s writing and producing their own music, it should almost go without saying that adds to the allure of the listen. We should add right at the top that while we couldn’t make connections with the lyricism due to the language barrier, that didn’t stop us at all from feeling the immense passion emanating from the vocal delivery. Tuulikki is based out of Sweden, and we already feel like making a trip out there just in case she ever plays these songs live, mainly because there’s no way they wouldn’t be elevated in an intimate setting.

Another major standout on our end was just how cohesive and emotional this work was. While we did feel that it started out slow and lush, ultimately it blossomed into this atmospheric, lush, and grand record that was filled with complex and dense rhythms. A majority of Playscapes is instrumental which was a plus and it also allowed for us to focus deeply on everything that’s being thrown at you. Though we’ve only listened one time through, we know for a matter of fact that with repeated listens, this album is going to continue to blossom and unfold. There’s no possible way any causal listener would be able to take it all in on one listen, so make sure you set some time away to come back for more!
