Seven years of hard work and focus on his 2nd full length album OBEY and we can confidently say Tom Euler has knocked this one out of the park. Read on for our glowing review of the record, in addition to a background on this artist.

Led enthusiastically by his bright vocals and skillful guitar arrangements, Tom Euler’s 2nd LP OBEY is a ball of joy in music form. As a singer, songwriter, and composer, this latest project was created 100% remote during COVID restrictions, which continues to become a shock the more we listen, mainly because of the upbeat feeling that it gives off. Regardless of the setting, it’s quickly become a consistent listen over here and we’ve got to overwhelmingly recommend a listen if you’re not yet familiar with the talents of this artist.

Contextually speaking, the lyricism here and context the record covers is extremely expansive. Exploring themes of existentialism, mortality, acceptance, addiction, adversity, and so much more, Tom doesn’t hesitate to throw the listener in the deep end. However, the juxtaposition of the album’s mood perfectly complements what it speaks about. We don’t think that OBEY is made for the listener to become insular in their own thoughts, rather to be made aware of the artist’s struggles.

As an award-winning artist and internationally recognized guitarist, it’s no surprise in the slightest that the instrumentals on OBEY pop the most. At 11 total tracks, spanning right around the 40 minute mark, no song is the exact same, but Tom still manages to exude a cohesive feeling through the listen. His dynamic vocals act as the glue to the record, but your interest will continually be piqued by some of the guitar passages here that are simply mind blowing in their execution. He’s heavily influenced by the late and great Chris Cornell and it shows through his technique. For example, our favorite solo of the whole album came on “Color” and sent collective shivers down our spines by the end of it all!

With all that being said, don’t hesitate any longer, you must give this a listen as soon as you can. We’ve included all the most important links below in order to listen, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for the eventual follow up. Enjoy!
