Three long years from his last full length album, but we can fully attest that the wait was worth it as Thomas Charlie Pedersen has absolutely gone above and beyond on his latest, Employees Must Wash Hands. Keep reading for our full review of the record, as well as a background on this artist.

Thomas Charlie Pedersen’s latest album, Employees Must Wash Hands, is a thoughtful and introspective record that showcases the singer and songwriter’s talent for crafting intimate and personal songs. The album, which is Pedersen’s third solo effort, was produced in collaboration with his brother Daniel Pedersen, who is also a member of the band Vinyl Floor. Together the Pedersen brothers have served up something elegant, poignant, and undoubtedly fulfilled their vision from beginning to end. We love this and are urging everyone to hit the play button ASAP.

Pedersen’s folk-influenced sound is on full display throughout the record, with his delicate guitar picking and hushed vocals creating a serene atmosphere. The songs on “Employees Must Wash Hands” were written during a period of isolation, with Pedersen spending countless hours honing his lyrics late into the night. This sense of solitude is palpable throughout the album, lending it a contemplative and introspective feel. It allows the listeners to take these words and attempt to connect the dots. Not only does it feel multidimensional in that sense, but also goes to show the absolute masterclass in songwriting that’s out on display.

One of the most striking aspects of the album is its arrangements. While Pedersen’s previous work has tended to be more stripped-down, Employees Must Wash Hands features a fuller sound that is reminiscent of a grand band. This change in approach is particularly effective on tracks like “Slow Passage” and “Fiddler & The Travesty” which showcase Pedersen’s ability to weave together intricate melodies and harmonies.

Lyrically, the album is deeply personal, with Pedersen addressing themes of self-doubt, isolation, and the struggle to find one’s place in the world. Despite these heavy themes, however, the songs never feel maudlin or self-pitying. Instead, there is a sense of resilience and hope that runs through the record, as if Pedersen is urging the listener to find strength in their own struggles.

Overall, Employees Must Wash Hands is a beautiful and moving album that showcases Pedersen’s talent for crafting introspective and emotionally resonant songs. With its lush arrangements and personal lyrics, it is a testament to the power of music to connect us to ourselves and to each other.

Once again, we’re so excited for everyone to enjoy this as it’s just downright a beautiful listen. Go ahead and please click those links below in order to listen, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for more major updates on the way.
