Back and better than ever with a perfectly positive shift in sound, Theory of Why have just delivered their latest, Pomegranate. Do yourselves a favor and keep reading for our in-depth look into the record, as well a refresher on the band.

Following up their 2020 EP Path of the Heart which we loved so much, Theory of Why have delivered a full length record that we legitimately think may be their best record yet. Due out on August 9th, Pomegranate is the work of Anton Kropp and Julia Nova who have kept up their cross country and long distance project seamlessly. For the fans of Hop Along, Stereolab, Wooden Shjips, and more, absolutely don’t skip out on this album.

While Anton handles the guitar, bass, and most of the atmospheric instrumentation, he’s found his match made in heaven in the form of Julian Nova. Julia has provided her heavenly calming vocals into the mix that currently rival any major indie outfit at the moment. Together they’ve successfully put together another album that will keep you interested from the get go and not let up until the final moments.

At 9 total tracks, they’re actively displaying raw emotion within the lyricism and dynamic soundscape that they’ve crafted up. You can audibly hear improvements on every single facet of the record. Everything from the songwriting and production has gotten a significant bump in quality, which is hard to wrap our heads around as we thought Path of the Heart wouldn’t be toppable. Thankfully though, they’ve proved us wrong and created a cohesive listening experience that is best consumed by hitting the play button on the opener “Oranges” and not stopping until the closer.

While the singles “Pomegranate (Denial)” and “Turnips” are definitely the standouts, the entirety of the record really does flow effortlessly from track to track. It’s immersive and allowed us to forget about the world for a short period of time and lose ourselves in a band that’s not getting nearly enough credit in the indie sphere. Seriously though, we sincerely and wholeheartedly implore you to check out this album as soon as you can.
