Review by Austin Sher

Officially releasing to the world on December 10th, 2020, The Wind-Up have officially shared their debut single “Who Cried Run”. We are loving it! Please read along with us for our full thoughts on the track, as well as a brief bio on the band as well.

Formed in the summer of 2020, The Wind-Up are a three piece alternative rock group based out of Stamford, Connecticut, made up of drummer Gio Gomez, bassist/lead guitarist Patrick Foti, and guitarist/vocalist Nick Amico. Together they’ve come together to combine elements of raucous and rhythmic modern blues, hook forward post-grunge, and singing pop-rock lead guitar. Lovers of bands like Kaleo, The Black Keys, and Pearl Jam are going to eat this up. Even if you’re unfamiliar with those influences, there’s still so much to enjoy here.

With additional releases planned for January and March, let us potentially be the first to say that we are thrilled and incredibly excited to see what else these up and comers have hiding up their sleeves. On “Who Cried Run” specifically, well, we didn’t quite know what to expect as this is their debut. Being fans of the alternative rock scene though might have had them at a disadvantage as our bar is usually set a tad higher. With that being said though, The Wind-Up have absolutely blown us out of the water with this single. In terms of sound, quality, production, and so much more, this one’s a winner.

Right out of the gate, the opening guitar shred leading into a set of heavy drums had us sold. The energy was high; that was until lead vocalist Nick Amico’s empowering vocal delivery entered the mix, then things really got explosive. In just three and a half short minutes, we became super fans of what’s to come out of this band in the coming months. While we would never want to rush a new group into churning out as much as they can, we will say that we’re looking forward to January and March for when the next release hits.

While this review is coming out on December 5th and the single out on the 10th, let this be the initial hype builder to your new favorite alt rock band. If a sound like this can come tearing out at such an early stage in a group’s career, there’s no telling as to what can be achieved with a little focus and creativity.

Normally we’d link the music in the links below, but for now you can pre-save The Wind-Up’s new single and follow them on all of their social media. So let it be known once more, these guys are the real deal and we highly recommend following up on the 10th once the single goes live. Until then, rock on!
