The Electorate release their third single, "Decades In A Day", off forthcoming album "You Don’t Have Time To Stay Lost"

With the third single off their forthcoming debut album, You Don’t Have Time To Stay Lost, The Electorate have released their anthemic new song, “Decades In A Day”. Read along with us as we break down our thoughts on the track, as well as provide a bit of background on the band as well.
Currently, The Electorate are based out of Sydney, Australia. The band is made up of Eliot Fish, Nick Kennedy and Josh Morris. Eliot plays the bass. Nick plays the drums and Josh usually plays the guitar. The band takes turns on vocals which is always a nice added bonus, mainly to show off all of their individual talents.
The song was inspired by seeing The Shins play live at an outdoor festival, and experiencing the interaction that all of their singalong bits inspire. The lyrics deal with being a kid - living in the bubble of your room and loving a song you hear so much you want to inhabit it. The lyrics also deal with being a parent, and having to let go of someone you’ve poured so much love and time into. If you’re even slightly familiar with the music of The Shins, it won’t be hard to notice the similarities, in fact the vocals featured on the track would make James Mercer quite proud.
Our first impressions of the track are just how much we liked it and how easily it would be to envision singing along to it at a concert of their own. It’s indie rock at its absolute finest, seriously. It features all the elements of a catchy song. It’s unbelievably easy to learn the words, especially the “la, la la’s”, and the guitar solo towards the end wraps it up beautifully. It’s almost uncanny how “Shins” it is, especially the vocals.
In addition to the vocals, both the bass lines and drumming add so much to the song. It’s easy to pick an instrument and just listen to all that’s going on in the background. Although there’s humans performing here, it sounds perfectly robotic in a sense.
We highly recommend and encourage you to take the time to listen to “Decades In A Day”. Additionally, there’s a music video! The video was directed by Alexander O. Smith, who directed Peaches and Iggy Pop taking on zombies in 'Kick It', Coldplay doing their slo-mo beach walk in ‘Yellow', and PVT do things with a shark and a kiddie pool that will never let you look at either in the same way for 'In The Blood'.
