Fresh off the release of their 2nd LP titled Interrobang, we got the special opportunity to link up front man Jacob Betts for a full interview to discuss the record. Check it out in full below.

Made up of college friends Jacob Betts (Lead Vox & Guitar), Hailey Petty (Drums), Jake LaMotte (Bass), C.T. McCallister (Guitar), and Samuel Overman (Guitar), The American Hotel System are an immensely talented rock band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Delicately mixing together thoughtful lyricism with seemingly infinite sonic elements to their sound, our discussion with Jacob about Interrobang was the perfect background on a record that needed more context.

After a long journey of 2+ years to get this written, recorded, produced, and ultimately finished, we can kindly confirm that the wait was worth it. We had the chance to review one of the singles off of it titled “STORIES” and it was at that point that we realized we had to hear the album in full the moment it dropped. To no surprise in the slightest, they’ve truly put together a cohesive album experience, something that we unfortunately feel is becoming a lost art.

Coming in at 12 total songs, spanning right under 30 minutes in length, The American Hotel System have put all out on the table for the world to enjoy. While their style certainly falls under the umbrella of “Rock”, there’s so much other influence from multiple decades and genres that show themselves. In any band situation, not everyone is going to be on the same page with what they listen to personally, but together they’ve collectively created something that dares to think outside the box and the norm of the genre.

While we definitely had our personal favorites and standouts, our sincere recommendation is still going to be to listen from top to bottom. Lyrically it’s profound and instrumentally they keep you guessing as to what twists and turns are going to arise. You’d be doing yourselves a disservice if you didn’t click the play button and let this run through uninterrupted.

Lastly, our conversation with Jacob isn’t to be missed either! It was so nice to get insight on the process of this all coming together, as well as what might be on the horizon for the band. Do yourselves a favor and check out the links below in order to listen, watch, and follow along to keep tabs on The American Hotel System.
