Tammy King & Dan Craik collaborate on meaningful single, "The Firing Line"
Written officially in 2016, but still as impressive on all levels today, Tammy King’s single “The Firing Line” is a real thing of beauty. Keep reading for a closer look into the track, as well as a background on this artist.
As an acoustic singer and songwriter based out of The Midlands, United Kingdom, Tammy King has downright impressed with everything she’s delivered on “The Firing Line”. Serving as her debut single, in which she’s released more throughout the last six years, this has undoubtedly set a base for more of what we’d like to hear in the future. On this song though, it’s actually a collaboration with guitarist and songwriter Dan Craik in which they used to be an acoustic duo named Devils & Dust. While the project didn’t work out, we’re absolutely thrilled that the song finally was finished up and released to the world.
On the background of it all, Tammy has stated, “The lyrics are about staying creative and not letting anyone put out your fire”. If that’s a glowing sentiment that everyone needs to hear, it’s this one. For us, we’ve translated it to life is ultimately too short and if you don’t take those chances, you could potentially regret those decisions forever, constantly struggling with the “what if”. Knowing the origin story of this song’s creation solidifies that message even more and amplifies to all who might be on the fence. The thing that makes it the most convincing overall is that Tammy’s voice has such a real sincerity and genuine feeling to it, it makes the entirety of “The Firing Line” feel like this intimate piece that’s speaking directly to you.
Another major memorable moment from our initial listen is how stylistically speaking, the song is relatively stripped back in a sense. Featuring the resounding acoustics of Dan’s guitar and Tammy’s voice, it allows for the listener to actually focus in on the lyrics at play. This type of music doesn’t need any flashy production or novelty gimmicks to grab attention, rather there’s more than enough going on to keep your interest piqued. Her range gets shown off on the euphoric parts and he’s kept the rhythm going all at the same time. Plain and simple, we’ve really enjoyed our listen and can’t wait for more!
