Sweet Giant excel on an inventive new EP, "Til You're Blue"
Re-emerging on their first release in quite a while, the wait was well worth it because Sweet Giant’s EP Til You’re Blue is a thing of beauty. Please read on for a closer look at the record, in addition to a background on the band.
After taking some time for themselves over the past couple years maneuvering a new direction in their writing, what you’re going to hear on Sweet Giant’s Til You’re Blue was recorded and produced by the band themselves. How they’ve pivoted their sound is pure bliss to the ears and their unique brand of indie rock 100% stands on its own through and through. We sincerely enjoyed this record and know everyone out there is going to feel the same.
Made up of Annie, Nick, and Marco, this power trio are crafting together a semi nostalgic alternative rock sound that’s equally laid back yet progressive. Annie’s vocals lent themselves so wonderfully on this record that it’s truly a difficult task not to laser focus in on them at every turn. However, the instrumentation here is impeccably groovy as you’ll find infinite inventive bass lines scattered throughout, as well as screaming guitar solos spliced in to really raise the energy levels. Specifically on “My Bones” is where we thought the album really picked up and found itself.
Now considering that this genre of music is something that we enjoy in our personal listening, we tend to “judge” a little bit harder. With that being said though, this is completely an EP that we know for a fact we’ll be taking into the rest of the year with is. It’s effortlessly smooth, original, and brings a fresh feeling that the genre desperately needs. It somehow feels like it could’ve been released in any decade of the past 30 years and would’ve fit in snugly.
In the meantime, we think we’ve made ourselves clear here when we say that this is a priority listen. Please do yourselves all a favor and check out the links below to listen, follow along, and to stay tuned for everything Sweet Giant. Enjoy!
