Susannah B serves up a fresh & dreamy Rendition of Billy Joel's "Vienna"
Hailing from the vibrant arts scene of Manhattan, Susannah B steps into the limelight with her enchanting cover of Billy Joel's classic "Vienna." Daughter of celebrated Broadway composer and lyricist Carol Hall, Susannah B's roots in the arts run deep. Her musical legacy is now expanding as she gears up for the 2024 release of a new album featuring original compositions.
Susannah B's take on Joel's "Vienna" is a lyrical and dreamy interpretation, showcasing the beautiful instrumentation crafted by her new band, with whom she's been working tirelessly throughout the summer to record her upcoming album. As the frenetic pace of fall sets in, Susannah B's soothing vocals offer a gentle reminder to slow down and savor the moment, echoing the lyrics, "Where's the fire? What's the hurry about?"
"'Vienna' was the theme song of my adolescence," Susannah B reflects. "From a young age, I was always very ambitious, super-busy, and over-scheduled – and that song gave me some much-needed perspective. It means a lot to revisit it now after the intervening decades, because what the song is really about for me now is growing older and wiser, and trusting that my life is unfolding exactly as it's supposed to."
This new single is a collaborative effort, produced by Michael Farrell and Susannah B herself, with Farrell also showcasing his keyboard skills. Farrell's resume includes work with renowned artists like Alanis Morissette, Macy Gray, and Steve Martin & Martin Short. Additional band members Victor Indrizzo, Sean Hurley, David Levita, and saxophonist Sal Lozano contribute to the song's dreamy ambiance.
Susannah B's rendition of "Vienna" is a lovely reimagining of a timeless classic. While paying homage to Billy Joel's original, she makes the song uniquely her own, adding fresh layers of depth and emotion. With her forthcoming album on the horizon, listeners have much to look forward to as Susannah B continues to craft her musical legacy.
