SUBURBS create immersive experience on winning single, "Next To Me"
On their second single of 2021, SUBURBS continue to get better and refine their sound. Keep reading on for our full review of their latest, “Next To Me”, in addition to a background on this emerging band.
Currently based out of Southern Ontario, SUBURBS are an independent pop trio made up of Dave, Mac, and Jake. Together they’re putting together soulful, atmospheric, and purposeful music that immediately caught our ears the moment it came to us. On their newest single, “Next To Me”, the band has stepped it up a notch in terms of everything and we are highly recommending a listen.
Recorded over the course of quarantine, where the writing and recording took place separately in each of their respective apartments, SUBURBS are exploring “one’s fabricated desire for love and intimacy”. While they’ve always played different genres of music, their love for consistently catchy music and imagery-filled lyricism have always been at the forefront. Additionally, we also suggest you check out their debut EP, The Sweet Nothing EP, it was a wonderful listen.
Speaking directly on “Next To Me”, you can immediately sense the love, passion, and emotion that went into every single facet of the song from start to finish. On the production side of things, this track is clear and crisp as you could possibly hope for. We highly recommend listening on a nice pair of headphones or sound system in order not to miss out on the subtleties.
The highlight by far were the vocals on this track. Primarily it is a vocal forward track with backing instrumentation that expertly complimented every complex lyric that came out. You can fully expect an immersive listening experience that’s guaranteed to pique your interest instantly and also provide a chill vibe and atmosphere that we felt the song does best. All in all, without giving too much away, this song is 100% a winner and a necessary addition to SUBURB’s growing discography. We sincerely can’t wait to hear the follow up, it’s sure to be something great!
