Styles1001 & Rasar Amani collaborate on genre-expansive record, "The M9 Project"
Coming together to create something extraordinary and genre-expansive, Styles1001 and Rasar Amani have crushed it on the release of The M9 Project. Read on for a closer look into the record, as well as a background on these artists.
For those out of the loop, Styles1001 is a Bay Area-based producer who specializes in melodic jazz and “boom-bap” style beats. On the other hand, you’ve got Poet and Emcee Rasar Amani who’s got an eclectic style of his own that complements and melds perfectly with Styles1001’s production. After much anticipation and an immense amount of hard work, the two have finally come forth with a full length album they’ve titled The M9 Project. We can’t get enough of it and are sincerely recommending it for everyone to give a listen.
Running at 11 total tracks that are somehow entirely different yet work cohesively, both of these artists give you a taste of what they do best. Through a stellar production that actually manages to take risks and a non stop flow of vivid lyricism from beginning to end, this is easily one of the freshest and most original sounding Hip Hop projects that has come our way in quite some time. With that being said though, throughout the album both of these musicians give the opportunity to learn a little bit about them. We’re not 100% sure if the spoken word passages relate back to their lives, but whoever these “characters” might be, they do a wonderful job of exploring their personal situations and individualistic expressions.
A major recommendation we’d make to anyone who’s going to listen is that truly the production here is unreal, which requires a nice pair of headphones or sound system. Listening closely in, you’re able to pick out certain subtleties that fully maximize what The M9 Project is about, honing on the insane energy and focus that resulted in this absolute piece of art. For us, picking a favorite song is extremely difficult because we felt that it was best consumed as a whole rather than isolating certain singles. We were partial to “King”, “Mellow Nine”, and “Thank you”, but honestly you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t appreciate this as one album experience.
