Celebrating its fresh release, Smooth Retsina Glow has just outdone themselves on their third full length record, Metaphysical. We are loving this! Keep reading as we share our thoughts on the album, in addition to a background on the band.

Officially formed in 2019 and now in its final form after years of lineup changes and slight adjustments, Smooth Retsina Glow is the project of Colin Wolf, Sarah Stoll, Jacob Wolfe, and Brian Dercas. Together, they’ve completely blown us away with their effort on their third album, Metaphysical, a record’s worth of smooth jams that somehow manage to keep getting better and better. If this happens to be your introduction to the band, it’s proved to be a great jumping off point to the rest of their discography.

Reaching critical acclaim on their first two records, they’ve taken what’s worked so well in the past and etched out this amalgamated version that’s taken the listener into the future. Coming in at 10 songs, spanning right around 45 minutes in length, we suppose you could label this as indie rock, however it really does feature so many other elements from start to finish. Immediately, the band kicks you off on a lighter note with the opener “Fall in Fall Out”, but things begin to take shape and warp as the record goes on. There’s plenty of experimental moments, bordering on psychedelic within the instrumentation, but that’s exactly what we prefer in our music. Things certainly hold a signature essence of the band’s sound, but there’s no doubt that they keep you guessing, especially on songs like “Held Under Sway” or “Born Enchanted”.

Through our initial listen, one of our first reactions was how well this would translate in a live setting as well. Metaphysical holds such a raw and enthusiastic energy and some of these songs would pop so well with a crowd rocking back and forth. The band is currently playing shows around Lehigh Valley, in addition to working on their 4th record, so clearly there’s a ton to look forward to in the near future. They’ve beyond impressed us and we’re already looking forward to a relisten just to be able to hear everything we most likely missed on the first go around.

For now, we’re urging everyone to listen, follow along, and of course to keep up with all major news. Enjoy!
