SLOW DOWN SONIC rip & roar on their debut EP, "Depths"
Coming out incredibly strong on their debut EP called Depths, SLOW DOWN SONIC have seriously blown us away with this performance. Please read on for an in-depth look at the record in full, as well as a background on the band.
Currently based out of Launceston, Australia, SLOW DOWN SONIC are a band on the rise who have put together an eclectic and powerful EP titled Depths. Filled to the brim with energy and infinite catchy elements, it’s a punk rock record that’s taken glimmers of the past and infused the future of the genre for something that’s ultimately well rounded and replayable. We’ve sincerely enjoyed our multiple listens of the album so far and are highly recommending it for everyone to give a listen as soon as possible.
Coming in at 5 total tracks, spanning right around 17 minutes in length, SLOW DOWN SONIC have laid it all out on the table for future generations to see exactly how it should be done. Through anthemic and emotionally charged instrumentation, it’s truly an album experience that more than delivers on cohesiveness. Though you may be stunned at the beginning by some of the instrumental passages, we felt as though the heart and soul of Depths came directly from the vocals and the songwriting that should not be slept on. In our opinion, anyone can play loud and capture your attention that route, but compelling stories within the songs are what differentiates the great bands from the average. The opener “Searching” is a prime example of that sentiment, but honestly, there isn’t a single song that falls flat in that regard.
While it’s certainly a punk rock record at its roots, we confidently feel that any fan of rock and roll in general could find something to love here. The vocal passages are reminiscent of that mid-2000’s emo sound we still love to this day, but the band has also gone above and beyond on the production too. The more we’ve gone back and listened, the more memorable moments seem to pop up, and that’s how you know you’ve got something special on your hands. Depths is a dense, well thought out, and vibrant record that we foresee ourselves listening to for years to come. Considering it’s the band’s debut as well, they’ve definitely solidified a solid base for the future!
