Based out of Brooklyn, NY, SleepingDreaming are a post rock, post metal shoegaze band that have set out to explore “dreamy detached surrealism”.  Creating dense soundscapes, their sound can be described as haunting and hypnotic. Taking influences from the greats such as Slowdive, Mogwai, Sleep, and so many more, they have taken our ears by hold on this complete thriller of a debut.

What initially started out as a side project focused on experimentation and texture, quickly took a turn as the band continued to explore and solidify their complete sound. After listening through closely, they’ve taken legitimately the best parts of their influences and added a signature style of their own. It’s not too often this genre of music gets sent our way, however, we’re massive fans and always welcome anything of its kind. With that being said though, SleapingDreaming have really put out something special here that we’ll personally be listening to on repeat.

While M. Inclemens is mainly instrumental, we think it’s almost better that the vocals were left out for the most part. It really did allow for the band to focus on those aforementioned hypnotic sounds, layering, and building off what they’ve created. Plus, without the vocals it truly allows you to hone in and focus on the musicianship that’s being put on display here. To some it’s just a lot of noise, but to the knowledgeable lovers of the genre, it’s beauty.

For a debut record, they’ve really gone full tilt and impressed us as you can probably tell. Without a doubt this is a band we’ll be following for the time to come, but our main hopes are that we can witness this in a live setting. With concerts hopefully on their way back sooner rather than later, this is just the type of album that deserves an audience to take it in and to really let the music expand in an open venue.

It should come as no surprise at this point, but this is definitely a record we’ll be recommending. For those who aren’t too familiar with the genre though, we certainly urge you to open your minds and check out something new, you might just love it. For those already familiar with the post rock and shoegaze side of things, buckle up because you’re in for a treat!
