Following up the release of his latest EP, Scattered, Skyline Sun has put forth his fantastic new single that we’re absolutely loving! Before we get into our thoughts on the track, we’d be remiss if we didn’t give you a bit of background on the artist. Skyline Sun has effortlessly brought together the rhythms of Hip-Hop, the harmonic textures of Jazz, the smooth vibes of Soul and R’n’B with just a touch of Electronic influence to create a modern and contemporary sound. While not being over familiar with his music prior to “Isolation”, we can see for a certain fact that we’ll be keeping a close eye on his career from here on out.

Heavily influenced in sound and feel by UK artists such as Yussef Dayes, Kamaal Williams and Mansur Brown, he has successfully encapsulated a vehement blend of dance, funk, and jazz fusion within his brand of music. Based out of Berlin but Sydney raised, Skyline Sun is the project of Jarrah Dhyan. Jarrah seriously impressed us with “Isolation”, but after listening to his back catalog, there’s certainly more to look forward to. According to the artist, there is currently a new EP on the way, as well as many collaborations across the music space.

Now that we’ve familiarized ourselves a bit with the artist, it’s time to dig into the track! Our immediate reaction to the single was “wow, this is fantastic”. The immediate varied drumming had our ears glued and as soon as the funk rolled in, we were fans. In today’s age of blending genres, the track certainly gave us feelings that this could have been an instrumental from Thundercat and Flying Lotus. In our opinion, that’s a huge compliment as Thundercat’s bass styles are certainly hard to emulate.

While the track is certainly “current”, in terms of speaking about containing the virus and what we’re all feeling during isolated times, it still brings a heavy dose of fun to a tough subject. The spoken word-like aspect to the vocals from Neon Puppet were also super appreciated and being done less and less these days. The overall flow on the track is smooth, fast, and clear. Speaking so quickly usually makes things hard to understand and get lost in translation, but we heard everything clear and concise.

Overall though, we’re big fans of “Isolation! In fact, it immediately went on all of our summer and mood-based playlists. Like mentioned above, this is a career we’ll be watching with a close eye as this genre is hard to be successful with, but we feel that Skyline Sun knocked it out of the park!
