Collaborating on a spectacular single that they’ve titled “stay dead”, we’ve quickly fallen in love with the latest work from Sketchface that features Celeste Madden. Keep reading for our in-depth look at the track, as well as a background on the artists.

Giving us that warm and fuzzy feeling from beginning to end, “stay dead” is a bedroom pop-inspired ballad that hits euphoric highs within the vocals and atmospheric elements. Helmed by Sketchface and featuring the silky smooth vocals of Celeste Madden, the two have filled in each other’s gaps to craft this extraordinary work. If for some reason this is your introduction to either of the artists, we can’t think of a better starting point than this.

Taking inspirations from Phoebe Bridgers and Adrianne Lenker of Big Thief that directly influenced the vocal stylings, Celeste has still brought so much originality into the equation. Normally on these types of collaborations, sometimes it can feel one-sided like one artist made it their own or took over, but in this scenario Sketchface and Celeste complete each other through every turn. While the vocals are certainly the focal point of the song, let us not discount the sweeping instrumentation and production that truly makes this song what it is. It’s dreamlike in the sense that the artists make you feel like you’re floating on a cloud as they whisk you away with their performances.

Lyrically speaking, “stay dead” aims to explore themes of “letting go of feelings for someone you used to care about”. There’s no doubt that it’s a relatable experience to say the least, but their delivery of the words is what really makes the point stand out. As this was actually our introduction to each of the artists, it’s given us more than enough energy to do a deep exploration on each of their respective discographies. To no surprise, they’re serving up memorable music that is 100% up our alley for what we personally enjoy in our free time. Let “stay dead” be the reason to do some digging for yourselves!
