Simulated Youth produces original new track, "NBT"
Freshly released on March 5th, solo project Simulated Youth have put forth a futuristic new single, “NBT”. It has taken us by hold and we absolutely love it! Read along with us as we share our complete thoughts, in addition to a background on the artist.
Based out of Phoenix, Arizona, Simulated Youth is creating futuristic dance music with an incredibly large dose of a vintage feel. With vocals coming from Camoragi on the first version of the single, they’ve managed to create an immense amount of emotion, clever arrangements, and a highly danceable piece of art. For those unaware, the single “NBT” stands for Nice Bass Track, as it definitely is.
As an insight on the track, the lyricism are about the song itself being in love with the artist, yet to the artist, the song is just their nice bass track. A bit meta for sure, but we dug it no matter what. Described as a darkwave foundation with a cybergoth feel, we truly could not place it any better. Obviously you’ll have to listen for yourself to get the full feel (which we recommend), but it’s a mashup like we’ve never experienced before, yet now need it so badly in our lives.
Influenced by some of the greats such as Crystal Castles, Bjork, Aphex Twin, and Die Antwoord, you can’t help but hear those sounds individually come through on the near four minute track. However, there’s such a bursting feel of originality injected into “NBT” that it surpasses any emulation and has quickly become its own thing.
The first thing you’ll notice before you take a listen are there are three separate versions of the track. The “full” version featuring Camoragi’s complementary vocals, a non-vocal semi muffled version, and a pure instrumental. While it doesn’t happen often, yet we talk about it frequently in other articles, we are in love with the idea of releasing multiple versions of the same song. It doesn’t seem overly difficult to do so, but it allows for the listener to instantly get into the mindset of the artist. There’s an openness that comes with it and we adore the idea of being able to pick apart what we loved on version and not so much on the other. Mainly, you should listen to all three.
As for the main version with vocals, Simulated Youth has changed our perspective on what electronic music can and should sound like. Immediately, you get thrown into what feels like an underground nightclub of suspense, but all you want to do is power through and dance the night away. This wasn’t a typical “bro” sounding electronic song, this was a valid piece of art that was layered with context and texture. True love and attention went into this and you can palpably feel it.
It should go without saying, but we are highly recommending a listen and exploration of Simulated Youth’s music. It’ll make you feel cool, that’s for sure. Seriously though, it was just a very well thought out and precise feeling that he was going for and it came across as complete and whole to us. We’ll be listening endlessly in the near future and are now anxiously awaiting whatever comes next. Enjoy!
