Simon Stirzaker debuts his emotionally charged single, "Getting High and Landing"
Review by Austin Sher
Simon Stirzaker has just debuted his lovely new single that we can’t stop listening to, titled “Getting High & Landing”. Read along with us as we give an in-depth review into what we thought of the song, as well as providing you with a bit of background on the artist.
Simon Stirzaker just hit the music scene with a massive success of his newest single, and we absolutely love what we heard. Before we get into the music though, we’d love to provide a bit of background on the artist. Simon’s music is described as typical indie with a dose of the 80’s. Mainly influenced by artists such as Michael Jackson, Queen and Bon Jovi – Simon also takes influences from more modern bands/ artists such as the 1975 & Arctic Monkeys which is where his unique musical flavour comes from. Creating new sounds has always been a passion for Simon who loves to experiment with new song-writing methods and tones to help his process.
Simon grew up in a little town in England called Fleetwood, an area that unfortunately is a little deprived of music and creativity. Thankfully though, Simon released this track and we truly hope it puts Fleetwood on the map for future generations! Considering the track was released today, July 10th, 2020, this is really only the beginning for him. According to Stirzaker, he’s got a catalog of music he’s been recording and producing as a direct influence of being locked down due to quarantine and COVID-19. We’re truly excited to see what he brings to the music scene in the coming months.
As for the music, let’s break down “Getting High & Landing”. The opening sequence of the track was extremely unique, I didn’t expect such a strong and soulful voice to come booming out, but it was quite welcomed. The acoustic guitar in the beginning compared to the inclusion of a shredding electric guitar towards the middle and end were also a fantastic juxtaposition in terms of sound. Lyrically, the song was very strong. We could tell immediately that Simon was going through something rough in his life, and so it seems the lyrics have everything to do with his life experiences. The song is emotional, hard hitting, and instrumentally impressive. What really brought it all together for us was the killer guitar solo to wrap things up, it really just felt fitting to have an emotionally charged song wrap up with a beautiful solo.
Overall, we really enjoyed this song and are thrilled to be able to follow Simon Stirzaker on his journey to success. We think you’ll love the song and should check it out immediately!
