Semler lets the listener into his life on new EP, "Stages of a Breakdown"
Released officially on April 13th, 2022, Semler has just put forth an eclectic new EP they’ve titled Stages of a Breakdown. We are loving it! Please read on for our full review of the record, in addition to a background on the artist.
For those somehow out of the loop, Semler is a Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and content creator who’s stopped at nothing to create absolute beauty on their latest, Stages of a Breakdown. While the record has certainly put lyrics at the forefront, creating a narrative of the artist’s life throughout a difficult time, it’s hard to ignore their divine vocals on top of a stellar production. As a whole, the EP is flawless and we sincerely can’t wait for everyone out there to give it a listen as soon as possible.
Coming in at five total tracks and “chronicling the saga of emotion following the demise of a pivotal relationship”, Semler has managed to tell these stories eloquently and chronologically that in turn doesn’t make you want to look away. What we mean by that is that undoubtedly the listener’s interest is piqued instantly as the musician lets you into a period of their life, all the while you’re hypnotized by the sweeping sounds presented. We definitely had specific songs in mind that stood out to be playlisted, however you’d be doing yourselves a disservice if you didn’t listen from start to finish uninterrupted.
There’s seemingly infinite elements that continue to stand out from the song structure to the subtleties hiding in the background, but one thing is for sure, Semler’s vocal tone is what sealed this all together for us. Seriously, the way that they don’t overshadow the rest of what’s going on, all the while you’re fixated on every word is a power we feel a lot of modern day artists don’t have. Every song is its own little world and story, but it shape shifts in a way that oozes a pure consistency throughout. We promise, it’ll all make sense once you hit that play button.
