Sacramento engineers a perfect summer vibe on "MAMA"

Sharing their second single of 2021, we couldn’t help but instantly fall in love with the latest output from Sacramento, titled “MAMA”. Read along with us as we share our complete thoughts on the track, in addition to a background on the band as well.

What sounds like it’s coming from a four-piece band, is actually the solo project of Italian artist Steve Fileti, also known as Sacramento. Fusing up an amalgamation of lo-fi indie pop and chillwave, Fileti is taking influence from other greats such as Homeshake and Connan Mockasin. In his latest output “MAMA”, he’s taking the best elements of both genres and created pure greatness.

What’s even better is the origin story of “MAMA” in which Fileti describes it as “Tales of loners and insurgent horses, miles of cacti, stacks of cowboy hats: the scenery where MAMA stems from is anything like the block where you grew up. Leave your designer jacket cause it’s no use among the herd. Listen to your lover when they’re longing for you from abroad. Sacramento’s new eclectic tune will have you sway and roll as you’ve never done before. In the desert and at the bodega you’re rocking with the wind, free to roll wherever the music takes you. This is the wasteland, a new kind of countryside for city dwellers. This is MAMA.”

We absolutely loved the description and it really set the tone for the song in its own right. After listening multiple times at this point, it’s quickly escalated to be one of our favorite songs of the past month. As lovers of the influenced bands, we had no choice but to judge the song a bit harder, but after being immediately swept off our feet with the lush soundscapes and even chiller vibe than we expected, this was crowned a clear winner.

As it appears there’s been a fairly steady output of tunes since 2019 from Sacramento, our hopes here are that the two singles released recently are going to lead up to another full length album, or at least an EP. With summer rolling around in our area of the world, a complete record of songs just like this would no doubt be the album of our summer. An album like this would be perfect for a beach day or even just lazing around the house.

“MAMA” is without a doubt a track we’ll be spinning indefinitely. There was so much going on instrumentally, so many highs, and a lot more to uncover that it’s primed for repeated listens. Our obvious recommendation is to dig into this one as soon as you can, we promise you won’t regret it.

In the meantime though as we wait for their album Latte / The Italian Breakfast to be formally released on June 11th, we’ve included all the important links below in order for you to listen and follow along for more Sacramento. Enjoy!
