Back again with another genre-bending track titled “Insomnia”, we got the incredible opportunity to sit and speak with Oren Weizman of music collective, Rouse the Boroughs. Please check out our interview below.

Meeting up and collaborating from all corners of the world, Rouse the Boroughs is a music collective that has featured Oren Weizman, Huong Su, Martin Kutnar, Robin Chionna and Cameron Black. On their latest song “Insomnia”, the group has shown once more that they’re not holding themselves to a specific genre, rather feeling out the tune and molding to the tone. During our in-depth discussion with Oren, we learned the in’s and out’s of how the collective operates, what’s on the horizon, and their super interesting recording process.

Always keeping their listeners guessing whether it’s going to be a dose of indie rock, folk, or noise pop, Rouse the Boroughs are breaking barriers in what’s actually possible making music in a remote setting. As mentioned, the collaborators featured here managed to create “Insomnia” solely through sending tracks back and forth, plus an unfathomable amount of Zoom sessions in the process. We suppose making music over the past couple years has had that happen in lots of scenarios, but the fact that they have a rotating cast of members just makes the project and music even more alluring.

While they’re relatively new, but working to record more singles in the foreseeable future, most of our conversation with Oren revolved around the process, production, and how exactly they collaborate given an age gap as well. We learned that there’s a massive amount of influence and inspiration ranging from all over, but it gives the opportunity within the group to learn and cultivate new and interesting styles as well. If this is your introduction to Rouse the Boroughs, we overwhelmingly recommend you check out “Insomnia”, but please don’t miss out on a riveting conversation as well.
