With a debut album called Highways gearing up for release this coming July, Ronny Criss has kept us anxiously waiting as he’s slowly shared a handful of singles to preview. Please, read on for a closer look at the tracks, in addition to a much needed background on this artist.

As the newest artist signed to Nashville’s Rainfeather Records, Ronny Criss is steadily making waves within the genre, especially over the past few months. As Highways comes to fruition, the rollout has been immense with four singles shared thus far titled “Ten & Two”, “It Ain’t”, “If It Rains Like This Tomorrow”, and “Tanks of Gas”. If for some reason you’ve yet to dig into his music, now would be the perfect time to do so in preparation for so much more.

As we begin to see Highways form its final shape, there’s a resounding constant that we found from our repeated listens of the single. You’ll notice it yourself, but it’s a heartwarming passion behind Ronny’s vocals that make their way in through each track. Not only does he have the chops to pull off basically any genre, but his storytelling and compositional skills are next level. That’s not to say that the instrumentation presented isn’t bright or vibrant, because it is, however his music really does rely heavily on deep lyricism to effortlessly paint a picture from the start to finish. He’s directly inspired by personal events and experiences in his life and those come through flawlessly on everything out so far.

Somewhere between indie folk and glimmers of classic country and Americana, Ronny is finding his niche within a particular style. The latest track out is “Ten & Two”, which has an air of suspense to it, but also a freshness that all three genres so desperately need. While of course each track deserves its own listen, the thing that we’re looking forward to the most is hearing them in chronological order through the album experience. Highways itself is set for an official release on July 8th, 2022, but there’s really no time like the present to familiarize yourself.
