Currently representing the music scene in Paris, France, Romain Gutsy has delicately put together a blend of folk, blues, and even glimmers of spoken word on his newest single, “The Girl From Kerry”. Meant for the listener to attempt to connect the dots within this lyric-forward song, Romain has put his own pizzazz on it through a generally upbeat and vibrant instrumentation, keeping the signature essence that he olds on the rest of his discography. Without a doubt though, it’s an artist and a single that we’re highly recommending.
On the background of it all, “The Girl From Kerry” is actually a very sad song when you dig deeper into the contextual themes. It deals with the “harsher parts of life” says Romain but ultimately could get anyone up and dancing to its brightness and authenticity. Putting the message aside even for a moment, undoubtedly one of our favorite parts of this listen was how this artist has composed it in terms of emotions. It all starts out with just his vocals, easing you into the listening experience, then quickly joined by that folksy and bluegrass-inspired instrumentation that raises the suspense and drama of it all. With sheer originality and freshness attached, it’s hard not to bop back and forth when this is playing on full blast.
As this was our introduction to Romain’s music as a whole, we didn’t quite know what to expect, however through our now many listens he’s left us with a positive feeling. He’s consistently looking outside of the box and making a style of music that feels underappreciated, but his brand has this light and airy feeling to it that’s hard to explain without listening. “The Girl From Kerry” is one of those classic vocal forward tracks that urges the listener to latch on and enjoy the ride, rather than relying on cheap gimmicks to keep you hooked.
