Released on July 31st, 2020, Robert O’Connor is back with another collaboration single with Skynem GT, titled “Over (Before It’s Begun)”. Read along with us as we break down what exactly we thought of the single, as well as provide some background on the artist as well.

Like most songs created during the last 6 months, they were born out of lockdown. In this scenario, the two collaborators were long distance between Dublin and Peru. The result is a chilled Ibiza poolside vibe with an infectious pop melody. If you’re looking to hang by the pool, drive with the top down, or just relax with a highly catchy new song, this is 100% the one for you.

The track is the third in a series of collaborations with EDM artist Skynem GT, who won a competition to remix Robert’s single “Real Good Fight” back in 2019. The pair went on to enjoy streaming success with “Older ‘20”, which proved a slow-burn hit, landing on Spotify playlists and receiving steady radio play, as well as strong reviews. Discussing his decision to work again with the Peruvian producer, Robert said: “During the global pandemic, I took the opportunity to look back through my catalogue and release a bunch of reissues and remasters. When I listened to “Over”, I felt it was a song that had never reached its full potential–the lyric and melody is one of my favourites I’ve written, but the production fell short”.

We couldn’t be happier that Robert has been productive during these times. While some are feeling stressed, as they should, this artist has channeled his time and energies into creating music that is making people happy. In a time where we all need to be happy, listening to this song has definitely swayed us in that direction.

Released on the same day is also the instrumental version of this song, which we love just as much. It shows off everything you’re not hearing without the vocals. Now comes the tough part, because we loved the vocal delivery on this track! It fits the vibe and atmosphere of what’s being created and truly goes along with the backing beat. While both versions allow both artists to showcase their skills, I still favor the main version, because it proves true to Robert O’Connor’s talents. 

As mentioned above, if you’re looking for a fun poolside single to listen along with, you must listen to “Over (Before It’s Begun). It’s a perfect song to cap off summer and it surely went on all of our playlists as well. Stop what you’re doing and get listening!
