Bridging the gap between metal, punk, and melodic-based dubstep, RIP Kenny is creating music with a specific style that we’ve literally never experienced before. Giving another preview to his debut album Escapism coming out soon, “i’m ok alone” is serving as the fourth and final track before the record sees its release. We’re not saying he saved the best for last, but there’s no doubt in our minds we’ll have both this and the debut on repeat as soon as it’s out.
On the surface you might immediately think there’s no way that elements of punk could fit into any niche of electronic dance music, but RIP Kenny has proved us wrong time and time again. On ‘i’m ok alone”, the artist has led first in his vocals that are booming with attitude and grit, all the while making the hairs stand up on our arms with a production that’s unbelievably heavy and powerful. We feel that it almost borders on something you would classify as electro-rock, but the track goes through passages of each specific genre to let you know it definitely isn’t. As we see the pieces of the puzzle coming together for Escapism, RIP Kenny’s lyricism based on life, leisure, love, and loss are peeking through each release.
To say that he’s pushing genre boundaries would be a complete understatement, and as mentioned, this is a take on music that we’re now experiencing for the first time. With that being said though, the sincerity and downright pure artistry comes in knowing that someone out there is actually creating something new instead of reworking the past. “i’m ok alone” is raw and energetic, but also shows deep and contextual themes through his words that act as the cherry on top to a sublime listening experience.
