Representing the beautiful country of Singapore, we got an unbelievably unique opportunity to speak with Reads about a variety of topics. With three songs released thus far, we highly recommend a listen to all, but more importantly, check out our full interview with the artist below.

As a singer and songwriter residing in Singapore, getting Reads’ perspective on not only his music, but the entire local scene was invaluable. At first we covered his upbeat and vibrant singles that he's released so far, but the conversation dug into the local music scene of Singapore, something we knew nothing about up until this conversation. Don't miss out on this talk!

As an independent musician who is influenced by a wide variety of genres such as pop, rock, jazz, house, world music, and beyond, Reads’ music is truly the amalgamation of everything that has influenced him throughout his life. Being surrounded by music growing up surely had an impact on the artist, in addition to having his favorites such as Deep Purple, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and plenty more.

While he’s primarily a drummer, the grooves that can be found within his music are truly unprecedented. If we had to recommend a place to start within his discography, it would certainly be on the breakout single, “Lightbulbs”. This cannot be overstated, but it’s one of the most fun and wide genre-influenced songs we’ve heard in a while. Truly, it’s virtually guaranteed to put the listener in a fantastic mood.

Reads's debut single was released in 2020 during the pandemic where he dug out archived material he wrote in 2009 during his tertiary studies. With the help of local music hero Bani Hidir from the band B-Quartet, the production side of things got fixed up wonderfully and the first single was born. As so many artists have discovered and catapulted music careers born out of the pandemic, this has certainly been one of our favorite discoveries.

Once again, we would absolutely love for you to give Reads your moment of listening, and watch our full featured interview as well, but if all you can do is listen, then you might as well work your way through the three songs he’s put out so far. Get ready for a bright and uplifting ride of music, you’re going to fall in love with quickly.
