For those not in the know, Project Atlantic is the solo project of Josh Zimmer, a South Jersey-based composer and multi-instrumentalist who began recording material of his own during his late teens while studying jazz in college. Project Atlantic blends the genres of ambient, electronic, and post-rock together to create everything from slow moving soundscapes to indie-pop songs.

On “Lonely Planet” specifically, Josh has really done an impeccable job with the blending of everything that makes Project Atlantic what is. Not only does the song create a complex soundscape and atmosphere, but his gentle voice is almost trance-like. Listening to a song for us is all about the mood it puts you in, and on this specifically, the mood was cool, calm, and collected. We’re not surprised that another stellar track has been released and we’re certainly looking forward to more in this style.

At a track length of just over 5 minutes, the song creates its own world in the sense that it takes you out of the one we’re currently living in. Not only is it instrumentally diverse, but the themes within the lyricism certainly ring true as well. The rolling bass lines, the atmospheric phaser effects, and Josh’s vocal delivery really made for an unbelievably enjoyable track that we’re highly recommending. With Fall just around the corner, this is the type of mood we’d like to be in, the one created on “Lonely Planet”.

Although this was our first time listening to the music of Project Atlantic, it absolutely will not be our last. We can tell there’s big things to come for this project and we’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on the progress. We also highly encourage you to go back and listen to his 2019 full length album, Ghost Stories, as it was equally a wonderful listen as well.
