Poems craft an atmospherically vibrant single, "She Set The Sun"
Atmospherically vibrant and filled with optimism, we’re loving Poems’ second overall single they’ve titled “She Set The Sun”. Please read on for our full review of the track, as well as a background on the band.
Currently based out of San Diego, Poems are an indie rock band that have just delivered a folk-tinged single called “She Set The Sun” that is simply magnificent. Having started out as a “notes-app project” and late night feels, the final product has turned into this effortlessly dreamy and laid back song that’s guaranteed to put you in a calming mood. If this is your introduction to the group, hop on the bandwagon, because they’ve got something special on their hands.
Slightly reminiscent of a pre-prime Real Estate, they’ve still managed to create something that finds a niche for itself, yet pulls on elements from so many different genres. Of course you’ll realize quickly that the main vocals provide that sleepy feeling that we thoroughly enjoy, but filled with a grooving bassline, it all finds itself in the end. Generally the instrumentation is minimalistic, but most likely that was the stylistic choice given the demeanor and energy of the song. Anything more that they could’ve easily added would’ve taken away from the essence of it all and otherwise spoiled what made it so great.
As this is just the band’s first single release of 2022, here’s to sincerely hoping that more is on the way as soon as possible. Not to give preferential treatment, but this really is our preferred style and genre of music we enjoy in our free time, so to get more of it would be a total delight. For us, it fits that mood of listening to something to bring you down from a stressful day, relax the senses, or just bop along to a piece of really well made and crafted art. However you like your music, we really do think that Poems can fit that void for you.
