Piero Pirupa & Samuele Scelfo collaborate on decade-spanning single, "Playin' Around"
Embodying the literal definition of “fun”, this all new collaboration from Piero Pirupa and Samuele Scelfo called “Playin’ Around” is downright fantastic. Read on as we take a closer look into the song, as well as a background on these artists.
Both from smaller towns in Italy, Piero Pirupa and Samuele Scelfo have truly outdone themselves on their track, “Playin’ Around”. Featuring lively samples, a massive dose of nostalgia, and a masterclass on how to perfect house music, we’ve got no notes on this beauty. Although this was actually our introduction to both the artists, it certainly won’t be the last of our exploration, which is exactly why we’re urging everyone to take the time and check this out.
Coming in at just a little over two and a half minutes in runtime, this song is already begging for a 10 minute mix, mainly based on the potential it holds in the mix. Featuring a minute long buildup that samples Kim Wilde’s “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”, these two have merged together decades of sound and style for an updated attempt on something modern. We can fondly think of this song being played over and over in our households, but now being grown up and fully immersed into the house scene, it’s absolutely wild that these two things have converged. However, it’s a great example for any emerging DJ’s or producers that the future of tech house can take a step back and pull inspiration from those who set the stage initially.
Though it’s just a coincidence they’re both coming out of Italy, it’s their first collaboration together after Samuele coincidentally remixed Piero’s “We Don’t Need”. Thankfully he did because now this work exists and is out in the world for all to enjoy. We’ve yet to experience each of their solo catalogs, so it’s a little tough to point out what each producer has brought to the table, but honestly that’s ok because we confidently feel that this song was made for those looking to have a great time. It’s got all the characteristics of a crowd pleaser, it’s an addictive listen, and people of all ages have ties to the core of it. Don’t miss it!
