Phlux Ascent produces an immersive experience on album, "Wayfinder"
Sharing his third album in two years titled Wayfinder, Phlux Ascent has completely blown us away with his attention to detail and vision on this latest effort. Do yourselves a favor and keep reading for a closer look at the music, in addition to a background on the artist.
From the mind of Ryan Pryor comes his solo project called Phlux Ascent in which he’s single handedly composing and producing some of the most mind bending music we’ve experienced in quite some time. Based out of Los Angeles, California, he’s primarily an electronic music artist, but has extensive training in jazz and classical piano. Without a doubt, we feel that his vast knowledge of music as a whole has directly led to the unbelievable infusions that you’re about to endure on Wayfinder.
Clocking in at 10 total tracks, spanning right around an hour in length, Phlux Ascent throws you into the deep end immediately as you become immersed in some of the most complex sound designs and sonic tones. We’d love to kick this off that typically, we’re a little apprehensive at times to review electronic-based music due to the similarities we find in so much of it. However, let us be clear right now in saying that this legitimately thinks outside of the box and transcends everything we thought we knew about the genre. A sincere recommendation before diving in would be to listen with a nice pair of headphones because the achievements in production and atmosphere are simply mind boggling. We didn’t know music was capable of sounding like this.
As you enter in through “Oubliette” and on through the first three or four tracks, an overwhelming amount of cohesion comes through as each song blends crisply to the next. We almost felt like this was more of an experience than a standard album listen. It could 100% be used in a film or a video game rather than just everyday listening for example. It’s truly difficult to even pick favorites as they’re so unique in their own right, but if we had to, we’d say that the 10 minute thriller “The Empty Places We Must Walk”, “On A Knife’s Edge”, and “Those Perfect Imperfections” had us on the edge of our seat. It’s been so long since music has made us feel bits of anxiety, but we thrived on it, and that’s what will keep us coming back for more listens!
