Peter Compo unveils his cinematic masterpiece, "Films"
Aptly titled Films, Peter Compo has put together an incredibly riveting new record that we’ve fallen in love with. Please do yourselves a favor and check out our full review, in addition to a background on the artist.
Proving he can do it all sonically, Peter Compo is also a scientist, composer, engineer, and writer in complement to his music creation. On his all new album Films, Peter has crafted an exploration into seemingly infinite sounds and themes. Similar to Aphex Twin’s Selected Works 2, he’s still crafted out his own niche and we’ve enjoyed every moment of the listen.
Coming in at 13 songs, spanning right around an hour in length, it almost feels as though each song takes on a life and world of its own. Sure, we could describe it as atmospheric, but Peter’s unique style of cinematic electronica are some of the most out of the box songs we’ve heard in quite some time. There’s love, passion, and emotion bursting through in each track, but the entirety of the experience is what we’ll leave remembering the most.
Certain passages like “Gorgo”, “The Magnificent Seven”, and “Blade Runner 23” were definitely on the perplexing side, but also deep enough for us to stop and think. A suggestion that we’ll make here is to make sure you listen to this with a nice set of headphones so as to not miss out on any of the production effects. As impressive as the instrumentation and thought process behind it all was, the production is really what tied it all together to create that cohesiveness of it all.
The obvious thought at the end of our listen was just how perfectly this record would align to literally any dramatic or suspenseful film. Whether that’s the end goal or not, we’re not sure, however Peter is on the right track of creating something extremely diverse. We particularly loved how this isn’t just a straightforward record, rather something to ponder, relax, and keep calm to.
Needless to say, we can’t wait for everyone out there to dive head first into Films. Give it a chance and listen closely! For all things Peter Compo, please check out all the links below in order to listen and follow along for more.
