Pennan Brae shares his 10th record, "The Garden Series, Vol. 1: Planted"
On his 10th (!) album titled The Garden Series, Vol. 1: Planted, Pennan Brae has put together a seriously well rounded and rocking piece of music. We’re loving this one! Read on for our full review of the record, as well as a background on the artist.
What is actually the first half of a double album, with the second half set for release in 2022, we can’t possibly imagine The Garden Series, Vol. 1: Planted getting better with more. What Pennan Brae has managed to do on these 10 tracks is extraordinary in terms of clever songwriting and inventive instrumentation. No matter what kind of music you enjoy, without a doubt you’ll be able to find something to love on this.
While Pennan certainly has a signature sound of his own, there’s some clear influence alluding to the greats like The Rolling Stones and John Mellencamp. However the entirety of the record is dripping with 1970’s and 80’s classic rock nostalgia and we think that’s directly attributed to the way it was produced and arranged. On specific songs like “Beckon Command” and “Night Crawling” is where we felt it the most, but ultimately enjoyed every moment of it.
Considering the second half titled Picked is set to drop in 2022, it’s going to be quite the experience to get to listen from front to back on both the records. Making the connections within his lyricism was also a joy, which has us excited to see if there’s any similarities in the context and stories presented too. Regardless of its message, we’re mainly looking to rock out once again with Pennan, because it’s been such a long time since something classic like this came across our musical plate. We need more as soon as we can get it!
Last thing we need to point out is just how wild it is that this is Pennan Brae’s 10th album and this was our introduction to his music. We’ll 100% be going through his discography to check out the other gems that must be hiding, we highly suggest you do the same!
