Oliver Low pivots his sound on intimate new single, "Your Disaster"
Nearly a month after our last review of Oliver Low’s “Fools Gold”, the artist has made his valiant return with a downright stunning single titled “Your Disaster”. Keep reading for a closer look into the song, as well as an update on this artist.
Continuing with his string of singles with the help of producer Alex Dezen, Oliver Low has shown a more sultry side of himself and his sound with a new single, “Your Disaster”. Leaning heavily on his dynamic vocal range on top of a sweeping soundscape, this one puts “rock” in the back pocket and shows you a new side of his many capabilities. We’re extremely partial to the slower and more intimate feel, which is why once again we’ve got to recommend everyone give this a spin as soon as possible.
Immediately if you were familiar with “Fool’s Gold”, “Your Disaster” takes on the feeling and embodiment of everything that’s right with indie acoustic folk in 2022. Seriously, meshing together a wide variety of instrumentation with a powerful message isn’t an easy task, but the collaborators have truly gone above and beyond in capturing the essence of the gerne. On the background of it all, Oliver has said “Your Disaster is a letter to all of my worries and anxieties, the buildup of noise of everything the world wants me to be. Be tougher, be a man. Don't feel that way, don't cry so much. Go play sports. Don't listen to that music, listen to this. Be a man. It's the letter to the "me" that could have been." Lyrically speaking, that’s about as open, honest, and vulnerable as a human being can get through music. We relate so hard with the sentiment and it’s a driving factor of our love for this song.
Of course besides the message, this song features all the bells and whistles that you’d want to hear anyway. As mentioned, the production brings a crisp edge into the mix, Oliver’s polished voice adds hidden complexities into the overall tone, and they’ve even managed to capture an emotional mood all at the same time. Generally it’s focused on just an acoustic guitar that also adds to bring a real intimacy and raw feeling, something that fully juxtaposes what we’ve experienced in the past. With so much more music coming, we’re sincerely looking forward to whatever surprises await us!
