Nico Benjamin excels on immersive EP experience, "True Or Not"
Putting together an incredibly eclectic mix of sounds and styles, Nico Benjamin has just presented the world with a lovely new EP titled True Or Not. Read on for our positive review of the record, in addition to a background on the artist.
Somewhere between R&B and Alternative Pop, Nico Benjamin’s newest EP True Or Not shows off the artist’s best capabilities as both an artist and composer. Featuring 80’s-inspired synthesizers and of course Nico’s vocals that steal the show throughout the record, he consistently provides twists and turns in the listen that pique the listener’s interest. Needless to say, we loved our multiple listens and can’t wait for everyone out there to give this a proper and focused spin.
On the background of the record and the artist’s music in general, Nico claims he’s “supporting people to escape everyday habits and rediscover their childhood dreams and ambitions”. The moment you listen and the moment the title track pops on, you can feel the passion and immense amount of love that went into it all. While there’s certainly moments on True Or Not that are dripping with Pop, ultimately it’s an experimental listening experience that thinks outside of the box and plays with the abnormal. At only three total songs, spanning right around eight minutes in length, you become immersed in the atmospheric tones he’s presented and get whisked away by multiple genres.
Typically we’d recommend a song or two to properly get the listener interested, however it’s only three in total as stated, so our urge here is to check it all out. The cohesive album seems to be losing its touch unfortunately these days, but this so eloquently brings it back for a full and chronological feel. Lyrically, Nico is breaking down heavy personal experiences, so it also gives the listener a glimpse into notable moments in his life. It can’t be overstated how much we’ve enjoyed this and are now going to be patiently waiting for its inevitable follow up.
