Staying incredibly consistent with their second single of 2022, Natural Twenty have made a swift return with “Ebb & Flow”. Read on for an in-depth review of this wonderful track, in addition to a background on the band.

Made up of Frederick Fernandez (vocals), Jason Cillo (guitar), and Robin Cillo (drummer), Rauth Clement (bass), Dylan Paish (trombone), and Seyoung Le (keys, synth), Natural Twenty are a sensationally talented group of individuals based out of Calgary, Canada. Dedicating themselves to the stylings of Funk, Jazz, Soul, and so much more, their latest endeavor “Ebb & Flow” effortlessly shows off their cumulative talents on a song that’s got a high replayability factor. If this is your introduction to the band, you’ve found them at a great point, because we’ve got a feeling they’re only on their way up from here.

Influenced by some of the current greats like Frank Ocean, Tom Misch, and Snarky Puppy, they continue to implement a signature sound of their own that puts them in a niche category of sound and style. With an EP on the way called Cantrips, this is the second single released thus far leading up and we can confidently say they’ve gone for 2 for 2. Now while it feels like we could name 1000 things we enjoyed about “Ebb & Flow”, the constant twists and turns on the instrumentation is what piqued our interest the most. Seriously, not to mention that it’s bursting with soul and musicianship, but it’s just a sonically stunning single that stands out from the pack.

At just a little under two and a half minutes, our only real “complaint” is that we wish it were much longer. Although, leaving the listener wanting more is always a good sign from an up and coming band, especially because more is literally on the way. We can only imagine that each member of Natural Twenty have their own musical preferences, but the cohesion specifically on this song is palpable and everyone seems to be having a great time. Needless to say, we want to reiterate once more how much we enjoyed this and can’t wait for everyone to listen and feel the same.
