mx-mr creates a vibe on debut album, "Bleached Hair, Dead Skin"
After an extended lead up to the album release, we’re beyond thrilled because mx-mr has finally put forward his debut record, Bleached Hair, Dead Skin. Please read along with us for our full and in-depth review on the album, as well as a background on the artist as well.
Currently representing the Brooklyn music scene, mx-mr is an independent singer, songer, and talented multiinstrumentalist that’s been playing music since the young age of 4. Blending up everything under the sun of Indie Rock, you’ll hear much appreciated glimmers of rock, bedroom pop, and alternative styles flowing throughout Bleached Hair, Dead Skin.
Honestly, where has this record been hiding, because it’s just the right vibe we were looking for. Being influenced by the likes of Phoebe Bridgers, Frank Ocean, John Mayer, Omar Apollo, and a handful of others, this debut is an amalgamation of everything those artists have done right, plus a massive dose of ingenuity from this artist. It’s a fresh take on a repetitive genre and seriously, it’s been on non-stop since it crossed our paths.
Instrumentally speaking, this record is a low key powerhouse that seemingly has infinite amounts of refined sounds happening in the background. While the vocals are certainly at the forefront but still have that patented lofi approach to them, they carry and invite the listener in a way that keeps them focused and engaged. All the while there’s commanding drums and fun guitar sections to keep the other side of the brain highly interested. We’re not quite sure if this was purposeful in its execution, but it barely even matters because it worked out wonderfully.
It’s at the point where we really don’t want to be on the spoiling side of things, rather the side that overwhelmingly suggests and recommends a listen to this album. While it feels like a cold weather record in parts, truly it could be listened to at any moment of the day and still be enjoyed to its full potential. With that being said though, please get into this and enjoy.
