Let’s not beat around the bush here, our minds have literally been blown by the greatness that Mulholland Jive has just released. Please read on for our positive review of “Bad Moon Rising”, in addition to a much needed background on this project.

Led by Irish musician Ben Mulholland, his instrumental funk-rock project is called Mulholland Jive and it’s amazing. Having just released an absolute stunner of a single called “Bad Moon Rising”, he’s managed to instantaneously turn us into mega fans based on just one song. If this is your introduction to his music, try to prepare yourselves, because there’s no doubt in our minds you’re going to fall in love as quickly as we did.

As a multi-instrumentalist and composer, Ben created these songs originally for his school students to rehearse and perform. After gaining positive remarks, he took these songs and finally recorded them. If you’re familiar with similar bands like Snarky Puppy or Vulfpeck, you’re going to love this, but even if you’re not we can basically guarantee you’ll find parts of this to adore. It’s extremely diverse in its sound and surely will put you in that upbeat and vibrant mood that it did for us.

Featuring a ton of inventive guitar riffs, bombastic drumming patterns, a litany of funk-filled horns, and so much more, “Bad Moon Rising” was peak perfection as an introduction to Mulholland Jive. We almost don’t want to say too much as to give away everything, but we do want to make it known that we’ll be following along for more and fully intend to explore everything he’s put before this.

As you begin to listen, just know that this isn’t your standard type of song, rather a musical and instrumental experience that reels you in fast and doesn’t let go until the final notes finish. Seriously though, that’s all we’ll say for now, so please do yourselves the biggest favor and check out the following links below. You can listen, follow along, and stay tuned for hopefully all the big things that are set to come out in the near future. We hope you love it as much as we did!
