Kicking their 2023 into high gear after a brief hiatus, Movie Club have come roaring back with two wonderful new singles, “Requiem” and “Spinner”. Keep reading as we take an in-depth look into the tracks, as well as a much needed update on the band.

Freshly released on March 7th, 2023, Movie Club have blossomed and revolutionized their already eclectic sound with a double single drop, “Requiem” and “Spinner”. Having last reviewed their music video for “Black Flamingo” in October of 2022, we’ve been patiently waiting on more, and wow has the project delivered in a big way. For those potentially out of the loop, Movie Club are a Venice, California-based band in which they’re serving up psych-rock instrumentals that will have your heart and mind racing. Of course, we’re urging everyone out there to take a moment and enjoy their latest offering to the world.

As a duo, you quickly realize just how massive their sound is coming from only two individuals. Made up of Jessamyn Violet on drums and Vince Cuneo on guitar, the two have finally previewed these singles that are slated to be part of their second full length LP, Great White. Paired with another huge announcement of their “Reading Rocking Rainbow Tour" in which they’ll be traveling all over the US (dates below), this year is already looking impressive from our standpoint. As for these two singles, well, through our initial listen they flow effortlessly into one another as “Requiem” ultimately feels like it sets the base for “Spinner”. Into the opening notes of the primary track, instantly it creates this expansive, experimental, and atmospheric world that lets the listener know this isn’t going to be your average instrumental. Like a rollercoaster of adventure and emotions, things escalate quite quickly, and before you know it, you’re completely immersed into the magic that they’ve thoughtfully created.

Comparing it to their record Black Flamingo, it certainly feels like they’ve continued to refine and expand their skills as already talented musicians and instrumentalists. These two have given us a solid taste of what’s to come, and being huge fans of the psych and rock scene, this scratches an insatiable itch but has longing for more. Thankfully, there’s a ton in the works. Please go ahead and check out those links below in order to listen, follow along, and of course to stay tuned for all future news and information.
