Fresh off the release of their debut album titled Prayer, we got the wonderful opportunity to sit with collaborators Mark Shveima and John Ruszin to discuss the background of the record. Please check out our full interview below.

Born in 2020 after the turmoil in the Spring, longtime friends and now musical collaborators Mark Shviema and John Ruszin came together to create the project called Mori Metanoia. Working tirelessly across the world from each other, they’ve finally released their lengthy debut album Prayer to the world. From its inception to the actual release date, the time spent and effort was completely worth it, because we’ve quickly fallen in love with the originality present in this record.

With nearly 7,000 miles between the two, it’s unbelievable that we got to hear the story of how this came about. It’s difficult enough to create a record in the same room, let alone across multiple time zones and strictly through sending files back and forth. Over 15 songs spanning well over an hour in length, they’ve left nothing to the imagination and ultimately come up with a cohesive record that is jam packed with plenty of instrumental highs and an expert production from start to finish.

On the background of the album’s meaning though, Prayer is a “sonic journey of personal and societal breakdown, from a variety of vantage points, wrapped in a blanket of hope for a better tomorrow”. It will all start to make sense once you connect the dots within the lyricism, but getting this background, plus the first hand remarks from the artists was extremely worthwhile for our follow-up listens.

Now that the record is out in the world for everyone to enjoy, we sincerely hope that the time will come for these artists to meet back up and further explore and build off what they’ve made. Even though this record is quite expansive in its genres and styles, we have a feeling there’s plenty left to come. If it’s this year or next year, we don’t care, as long as there’s an eventual follow up! In the meantime, please dig into Prayer from Mori Metanoia by clicking the links below.
