Mordechai Mendoza previews debut "Mickey Blue" off upcoming album
Giving listeners a taste of what’s to come prior to his debut album, Mordechai Mendoza has beyond impressed us with “Mickey Blue”. Please keep reading for an in-depth review of the track, as well as a background on this emerging artist.
On just his first single, Mordechai Mendoza has set the bar incredibly high for what’s to come. The track is called “Mickey Blue” and immediately piqued our attention with its euphoric vocal highs, folk-inspired instrumentation, and its generally upbeat and vibrant vibe about it. Through a playfulness and never ending string of catchy moments, we’re highly urging everyone out there to click the play button on this as soon as you can.
Now while our focus was certainly shifted towards the instrumentation at first, you slowly start to unravel what the song is about and what directly inspired it. Says Mordechai on the background of it all, it features “deep lyrical content about my mental health struggles when you read between the lines”. On further listens and playing close attention while attempting to connect the dots, the skills in his songwriting have 100% come to the forefront as one of our favorite parts of the song. It’ll suck you in with its harmonies, but if you pay attention, it shows just how lively and well rounded it really is at the end.
With a music video that’s accompanying the single as well (due out July 15th) and rumored to be subtly psychedelic, we’re really looking forward to its release! However while we patiently wait, let us continue on to explain some of our other favorite moments. Besides the shimmery instruments and songwriting, it’s not going to come as a surprise that Mordechai’s vocals are the real star of the show. The immense amount of passion, love, and sincerity that he’s effortlessly infused into his delivery makes “Mickey Blue” what it is. It can’t be taught, rather a skill that you just sort of feel when singing these words that mean so much to you. Honestly, we can’t wait for this full album to come and hope that there’s more single teasers like this prior to the release.
