On their debut EP titled Relics of a Bygone, the duo of Moon Rise City have completely blown us away in every regard. Please read on for our full review of the record, as well as a background on the band.

Fleshed out with tons of inventive instrumentation and an incredibly warm production, the indie pop duo of Moon Rise City have successfully impressed us on Relics of a Bygone. Blending up a wide array of genres from alternative, pop, and more, they’re truly bringing something new to the table here. We couldn’t help but quickly fall in love with their sound and we really think you will too!

Made up of South-African singer-songwriter Lauren Tracy and French/Vietnamese guitarist Indy, they’re embracing a laid back and chill sound that’s filled to the brim with soul. Slightly reminiscent of Khruangbin in some regards, they’re still paving their own way within an undiscovered genre. At just 6 total songs, spanning just around 23 minutes in run time, there isn’t a single displeasing moment present here. Every moment is filled with cutting edge moments that are guaranteed to draw any kind of music listener in.

In the world of music nowadays where it feels like the release process comes on single to single, we’ve enjoyed listening every step of the way as the hype and momentum has continued to build up. Getting the opportunity to hop on the ride of Moon Rise City and experience each song in its own right, and then listen to the entirety of the record was a wondrous process. While it would be completely difficult to pick out a favorite, we’ll go with the recommendation to listen to the EP in full in order to pick out what you liked best.

The gist of this review is that if you’re looking for your new favorite band to relax to, impress your friends at parties, or just generally fall into the perfect summer daze, Relics of a Bygone is 100% the album you need to be listening to.
