Always expanding on his already prolific sound, the project of Memorial Television has just delivered an outstanding fourth record titled Good Sport. We love it! Please read on for our glowing review of the album, as well as a refresher on this artist.

From the mind of singer, songwriter, and producer Andy Rosales comes what we’re considering to be Memorial Television’s best album yet, Good Sport. Centering around themes of self-reflection and growth, this synth-fueled record was truly a wild and exciting ride from the opening moments. If this is your introduction to this artist, prepare yourselves for a fantastic listen!

Recorded over the last year and with serious sonic improvements from his last output, you can fully hear the influences coming in from LCD Soundsystem, The 1975, U2, and so many more! Particularly though, the LCD Soundsystem feel came out the most and with great reason. Kicking things off on the opener “Off to the Big City”, Andy preps the listener with his always profound lyricism and vocals, but the instrumentation of it all is what blew our minds. How he was able to achieve those synthesizer tones is beyond us, but the entirety of the atmosphere surpassed anything he’s ever made.

At 16 total tracks, running right around an hour in length, Good Sport could initially come off feeling bloated as that’s a long run time, but the album flows by as you continue to delve into this world. It feels like nowadays we’re in the midst of these quick 30-minute fleshed out records, but so much of what we enjoyed were the liberties taken in terms of experimentation. You can feel the pent up energy of a year’s worth of work come out on tracks like “Night Time”, “Mascot”, and “Pulling Me Down”. It really can’t be overstated just how many fun directions and artistic liberties were taken, it’s hard not to fall in love.

Without spoiling too much else, we’re fairly certain we’ve built up the hype on Good Sport as much as possible. Undoubtedly we’ll be coming back for further listens because of its density, but the initial run through is as memorable as can be. Do yourselves a huge favor and please check out the links below where you can listen, follow along, and stay tuned for everything else on the way. Enjoy!
