Debuted just in time for the Christmas season, Melanie Marie has shared her wonderfully simplistic new single, “When The Lights Go Low This Christmas”. Originally from New Jersey, Melanie Marie is a singer and songwriter from NJ who sources inspiration from nature, literature and relationships. Her career of singing began at a young age when she was initially enamored by Broadway show tunes, and eventually realized she loved telling stories. After picking up guitar and ukulele along the way, she furthered her passion while studying music in college with her now husband and immersing herself in jazz, The Beatles, and classic rock. With a voice that combines sweet with sultry and a benevolent visionary at heart, she believes music to be an escape from reality as well as the purest form of living.
For so many this specific Christmas season who are unable to spend time with friends, family, and more, Melanie Marie has done us all an important service and brought unparalleled joy to our lives with the gift of this new song. Having originally created this song in 2016, we’re thrilled that after more updated revisions reflecting her life, it finally saw the light of day.
Going a more minimalistic route, featuring Melanie’s lush vocals and a ukulele, the focus became less about instrumentation and more about the message and themes being presented. Truly, we love when artists go this route as it’s much easier to showcase their talents, instead of them often being drowned out by overproduction. It allows for you to focus on the moment at hand and provides a feeling of reflection during difficult times.
While it appears that this track is the only official release on her streaming platforms, the question instantly became, when can we get more!? A voice as commanding as hers deserves to be heard in other iterations. We’re not rushing the artist to put out more, however we’d love to see more original tunes in the new year. For now though, we’ll have this one on repeat throughout the season.
The message that we’re trying to get across here is that in the best way possible, Melanie’s music should be a guiding light and relaxation tactic for those going through hard times this Christmas. Let the cutesy ukulele wash over you and give this one multiple streams, we definitely will!
