5 years later, MEGG is officially back with her booming new single, "SHAMOO"
Review by Austin Sher
Releasing her first single in over five years, MEGG is officially back with the release of “SHAMOO”. Read along with us as we give an in-depth review of what we thought of her newest track, as well as a bit of background on the artist herself.
Born and raised in the South Bay of Los Angeles, California, MEGG is currently making big waves within the music industry. She recently opened for The Used at Musink, performed at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, as well as the Disney Concert Hall. Additionally, she appeared on NBC’s The Voice and was one of five vocalists to come out of the first graduating class of USC’s Popular Music Performance Program. With a voice that sounds like the lovechild of P!nk and Bishop Briggs, you can’t help but be captivated by the strength and grit of her vocals and her attention commanding stage presence. Her in-your-face, feel good, hard hitting music will have you driving way too fast, scream singing at the top of your lungs with the windows rolled down on your way to the beach to drink with your friends.
While “SHAMOO” was our first foray into the music of MEGG, we’re beyond excited that this single came when it did. Like mentioned above, it’s the type of music you want to scream at the top of your lungs while speeding down the highway. The instrumentals on the track were super unique and varied, but the real standout here were absolutely her vocals.
According to MEGG, “I wrote “SHAMOO” as an anthem to my late Dad’s suburban that was passed down to me when I was 16. Driving around in that truck provided me an outlet to deal with my grief, gave me a sense of connection to my Dad and eventually became my go to safe space where I could let it all hang out.” There’s almost nothing better than solidifying the love of your father and your “safe space” than by creating a song that will live on forever. Not only will the listener get to rock out, but as long as the song’s around, she’ll always that memory of good times and nostalgic feelings.
“SHAMOO” is absolutely loaded with heavy guitars, booming drums, and an immense amount of punk roots. There’s too many catchy hooks to count and it truly makes for a fantastic summer song. We’re glad we found about MEGG when we did, because this is definitely a career we’ll be watching with a close eye. Additionally, if you liked “SHAMOO”, get pumped, because a new single and EP are soon to be arriving sometime around Fall 2020!
