Fresh off the release of his debut album titled Sparrows of the Night, we got the special opportunity to sit and speak in-depth with Mathieu Raney all about the in’s and out’s of the record. Please, check out our full interview with the artist below.

Currently based out of Silverton, Oregon, Mathieu Raney is a singer and songwriter who’s doing massive things at only 18 years of age. On the heels of his debut record Sparrows of the Night, he’s delicately detailed the past two years of his life that deals with serious themes of life, love, and mental health. Of course getting to sit and talk with him about the specifics was the cherry on top of loving his record, and if this is your introduction to the artist, we highly recommend you explore everything he’s put out so far.

Inspired by some of the greats like Tom Petty, John Mayer, and so many more, Mathieu has still managed to infuse so much of his own personality and a signature sound into the album. From a songwriting standpoint, he’s really laid out such intimate stories that are put together by clever lyricism spread throughout Sparrows of the Night. Hearing him recount what the record is about as a whole was quite the experience, but knowing that there’s plenty more on the way in terms of a follow up has to be the most exciting thing. In fact, this album was initially supposed to be a double record, but ultimately that didn’t quite work out. Looking towards the future though, we should see a follow up with some of those tracks sooner rather than later.

At 10 total tracks, spanning right around 38 minutes in length, we found it to flow so smoothly from start to finish. It doesn’t overstay its welcome and honestly serves as a stellar debut album for an artist who’s gearing up for a career that holds longevity. If this is the quality that a young artist like Mathieu is putting out so early on, we’re beyond excited to hear how subsequent records shape up for years to come. In the meantime, we wholeheartedly recommend everyone start out with this one, as well as checking out our interview with the artist. Don’t miss out!
